One of the more noticeably absent mash-up packs in Minecraft was Mario. Most people assumed that it was because Nintendo didn’t want to have their characters on any competitor’s console, and they were pretty much correct. So when Minecraft finally came to Wii U last December, it was only a matter of time before people got to play as blocky versions of Mario and co.
Today, Nintendo released a trailer showing off the Mario mash-up pack coming to Wii U, and it features a pretty extensive collection of Mario’s greatest hits.
Players will be able to run around in the Minecraft versions of Delfino Plaza from Super Mario Sunshine, Princess Peach’s Castle, the mansion from Luigi’s Masion, and Bowser’s Castle, just to name a few.
According to Game Informer, the pack will include fifteen pieces of Super Mario music, new item textures, forty skins, and a pre-made world.
As you can tell from the trailer the those forty skins are as diverse as the rest of the pack including characters from Waluigi to Birdo, and pull from some of the lesser known games like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. It even includes Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.
The Mario Mash-Up pack will come as a free update on May 17th. If you’re the kind of person who prefers having a physical copy of things, Minecraft: Wii U Edition will also be getting a physical release on June 17th for it’s eShop price ($30). The physical edition will include the Mario pack as well.
