Developer Nadeo announced some major changes and upcoming content today on the UbiBlog regarding their various Trackmania properties, including a major update to their Maniaplanet platform, as well as a new expansion pack hitting Trackmania2 later this month.
Maniaplanet, the creation-based gaming system where players can build their own games within the Trackmania and Shootmania game engines and then share them with other users, officially enters its fourth iteration with “v4” today. Offering free access to older builds of –mania games and loads of creation tools, Maniaplanet offers a way for users to “install, use, organize, create, compete & exchange community-created experiences based on Trackmania and Shootmania in total liberty.”
Maniaplanet v4 adds a number of new features and improvements that allow for players to create new single-player campaigns, as well as design new 3D objects. It also adds access to a new channel for discovering user-generated content and connecting with other players, a new team game mode called “Chase” in all Trackmania2 titles, and a new “Warlords” game mode to Shootmania, alongside new weapons and vehicles.
Coming to PC on May 23, Trackmania2 “Lagoon” will add a new 65-track solo campaign, six new multiplayer game modes, and the ability to create new tracks and events in a brand new tropical setting. According to Ubisoft, Lagoon promises to “take racers to tracks between fabulous palm trees and the crystal-clear bay waters of the Tropical Island of Lagoon, where they will experience arcade gameplay unlike anything in the series to date.”
Trackmania2 Lagoon will be available for PC digital download on Steam, Uplay, and Maniaplanet on May 23. Stay tuned to trackmania.com for updates.
