Major Expansion For Dangerous Elite Slated For Late 2020

The enormous space exploration game Elite Dangerous has given its community some news on the future of the game and what additions are on the way. In an update to the player base, Frontier Developments discusses a major expansion that is coming, most likely in the later portion of 2020. Since its initial launch in 2015, Elite Dangerous has been met with both positive and negative reviews since the launch of the game’s Beyond: Chapter Four. The developers are hoping that this paid content, which is not specifically described in detail, will get Commanders back into their ships.

While the future expansion will have to be purchased, lifetime pass owners will receive the content along with their membership. The community update from the beginning of this month reiterates that the team behind Elite Dangerous is committed to supporting the game for the long term by making improvements and new additions. Initial information that Frontier had started to work on the “next major era” of the game was first mentioned back in August of 2018. Based on their progress and plans for the unnamed expansion, they “estimate this major milestone will be ready by the latter half of 2020.”

There is still quite a bit of time until then for Frontier to be teasing about a major drop of content. However, there will still be weekly events, monthly updates, and in-game events to hold pilots over until then. Though they admit that these updates or events will not be the same size as updates to Elite such as Beyond or Horizons. These will consist of improvements to the game that have been received from the community feedback that will affect “new scenarios, reputation and reward boosts (such as Superpower reputation increases), BGS and global galactic changes, in-game interactions, new game assets and much more to make game-wide events that tie into the game world.”

Elite Dangerous is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam Store.
