Wizards of the Coast has shared some new details for its return to the iconic dragon-filled plane with Tarkir: Dragonstorm. The new set, which releases April 11, will feature new mechanics and unique key words for the five clans that adjusts gameplay themed to each clan, five Commander decks each themed to a clan, and new print treatments in collector boosters for collectors.
Tarkir: Dragonstorm follows the events of Dragons of Tarkir where people were subjugated under the oppressive rule of the dragonlords. Over time unrest grew and the people rebelled against dragonlords, taking up the banners of the old clans. In a bid to end the conflict, the leaders of the rebellion uncovered a powerful ritual, one that would summon a force strong enough to defeat the dragonlords once and for all.

The dragonstorms have forced the clans of #MTGTarkir to either adapt or be a dragon’s dinner. You can see this growth reflected in the set’s card mechanics. pic.twitter.com/2GVExngn4b

New dragon cards bring in brand-new dragon themed abilities. Dragonstorms are enchantments with powerful enter abilities that return to a player’s hand for recasting when a dragon gets played. Omen is a new card subtype that lets players choose whether to cast a small spell that then shuffles into their library, or a big dragon.

the Abzan (White, Black, Green) keyword Endure focuses on counters. When playing creatures with Endure players may add N +1/+1 counters or create N/N Spirit tokens. Flurry for the Jeskai (Blue, Red, White,) allows for mini combo turns with multiple spells. Cards with Flurry trigger an additional effect when you cast your second spell each turn. Renew, the keyword for the Sultai (Black, Blue, Green) allows players to exile cards rom their graveyard as a sorcery for fun and profit. To Renew, spend some mana and exile the card for a powerful result. The new Mardu (Red, White, Black) keyword will boost a go-wide strategy for the turn. Creatures with Mobilize trigger when attacking and create more attackers with menace that are sacrificed at the beginning of the next end step. The Temur (Green, Blue, Red) keyword, Harmonize, is all about big creatures reducing costs. Players can cast cards with Harmonize from their graveyard for its Harmonize cost and may tap an untapped creature a player controls to pay its power in generic mana.

With the return to Tarkir, Wizards of the Coast features coveted cards, new card treatments, and thematic foils that bring Tarkir to life. Mox Jasper is a powerful new addition to any dragon deck. Regular and Draconic treatments can be found in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters. Dragonic cards celebrate the wild dragons of the plane with a themed frame, while the Borderless Clans cards bring the five factions to life with a unified theme. The elder dragon Ugin’s influence over Tarkir is manifest in new Ghostfire cards, special art and card frames imbued with Ugin’s ethereal presence.
