

Last year, Wizards of the Coast announced its 2025 lineup and revealed its next gaming collaboration, this time with FINAL FANTASY. Now, they have shared the first look at set which releases on June 13, 2025.

The FINAL FANTASY will see characters from every mainline game, each depicted through the lens of Magic: The Gathering. There will be over 100 legendary creature cards across the entire release. 55 of these legendary creature cards will be borderless cards with eye-popping backgrounds.,
There are borderless woodblock cards that are inspired by traditional Japanese woodblock paintings, and feature intricate artwork of the summons. There are also borderless Final Fantasy artist cards, featuring fan-favorite artists from the history of the series.
Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy will feature a host of special mechanics and content inspired by the series including Saga creatures, Double-Faced cards, and more.
Saga creatures are inspired by the summons from Final Fantasy. Saga creatures act the same way as Sagas do, when they enter the battlefield, the player adds a single lore counter, granting an immediate effect, after a certain count, the Saga goes away.
Double-Faced cards make its return to Magic: The Gathering with this set. When a player casts the front side of the card for its mana cost and fulfills its required conditions, the card can transform to its alternate form. Iconic FINAL FANTASY characters, minigames, story moments, and more will be represented on these types of cards throughout the set.
The Commander decks for Magic: The Gathering – FINAL FANTASY tell the story of an individual game from the franchise and feature the main characters as the commander. The game’s represented include FINAL FANTASY VI, FINAL FANTASY VII, FINAL FANTASY X, and FINAL FANTASY XIV.
To celebrate the collaoration, there is also FINAL FANTASY Through the Ages which showcases iconic Magic cards with FINAL FANTASY artwork. These cards form a Bonus Sheet for the set featuring existing artwork from the FINAL FANTASY series, which highlights artists such as 天野喜孝/YOSHITAKA AMANO and 野村哲也/TETSUYA NOMURA.
Fans can preorder Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY products now, including Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Commander decks, Collector’s Edition Commander decks, Bundles, and Gift Edition Bundles.
Regarding the legality of the cards:
- Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY (FIN) is a Standard-legal set
- Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY Commander (FIC) and FINAL FANTASY Through the Ages (FCA) are Commander-, Legacy-, and Vintage-legal sets, and individual cards are also legal where already available in other formats
- Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY Play Boosters contain cards from FIN and FCA. These cards are playable in Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY Draft and Sealed when opened from Play Boosters
This set is not the only one coming. Wizards of the Coast have announced that they are releasing three Secret Lair drops alongside this set to capture the worlds of FINAL FANTASY in Secret Lair‘s always iconic, always stunning style. More details will be revealed closer to the set’s release.
There is also a special holiday release for for Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY later this year.
