Magic: The Gathering, known as Magic or MTG by players and fans, is a popular collectable card game, available both physically and online. It’s published by Wizards of the Coast (WotC), also known for Dungeons & Dragons. Players engage in combat using a deck of cards which include resources, combatants, and spells. Six Magic sets are typically released per year, but at the recent MagicCon: Atlanta, the WotC team revealed that they will be releasing a total of seven sets for 2026 before returning to the standard six Magic sets in 2027.

Lorwyn Eclipsed

The first set to be released will be Lorwyn Eclipsed on January 23, 2026. Lorwyn was first introduced in 2007 with the Lorwyn set. The second set released in Lorwyn was Morningtide in 2008. Lorwyn’s inspiration is Celtic in nature, with additional inspiration coming from English, Welsh, and Scottish folklore, as well. Players looking forward to Lorwyn Eclipsed can currently preorder it from local game stores or online retailers like Amazon, as well as anywhere Magic products can be purchased. Universes Beyond Set

The second set of 2026 will be Universes Beyond, set for reveal at New York Comic Con on October 10, 2025. Details regarding the 2026 Universes Beyond set will be available to players on DailyMTG once revealed. Universes Beyond encompasses the sets that are other IPs (think the Final Fantasy Magic sets!). The upcoming Universes Beyond will be available both physically and on MTG Arena. There is coincidentally a Nickelodeon and Magic: The Gathering panel at NY Comic Con, so fans should keep their eyes out for any announcements at the panel!

Secrets of Strixhaven

Secrets of Strixhaven will be the second Magic set released in 2026, currently set for an April 2026 release. The set will explore the life and adventures of the students of Strixhaven University outside of their colleges. A companion young-adult novel, Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos, by Seanan McGuire will also be released next year, centered around a different group of students from Strixhaven.

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes

Fans of Mavel, rejoice! Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes will be coming next year with a projected June 2026 release! The information available currently is bare bones, but the Magic announcement has promised to feature mighty heroes and dastardly villains from the Marvel Universe.

Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit

Next up for Magic’s jam-packed 2026 is the year’s third Universes Beyond set: Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit, set for an August 2026 release! This collaboration will be available both physically and on MTG Arena when released. Magic previously visited Middle-earth through their The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth series in 2023. 

Reality Fracture

Reality Fracture will be the next Magic set to release in October 2026. Not much information is available at the moment regarding the set, though more information will come as the release date approaches.

Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek

The final set of 2026 will be Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek in November 2026. The set will include characters, stories, and ships from all of Star Trek, so hopefully every fan of the franchise will be able to build a deck with their favorites! The set will be available both physically and on MTG Arena when it is released, and more information will become available as the release approaches.
