Square Enix has announced their next upcoming project and the follow-up to last year’s I Am Setsuna, a new JRPG titled Lost Sphear. The game will be playable on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, and is slated to release in “Early 2018”; check out the announcement trailer below:
In this emotionally-charged trailer, we get a brief overview and first look at the world of Lost Sphear. In Lost Sphear, players take control of a young boy named Kanata who has awoken from a “devastating dream” only to find himself in a world that seems to be slowly disappearing into oblivion, with people, buildings, and whole locations fading into “mist”. By joining up with a squad and utilizing the powers of friendship and teamwork, Kanata will work to repair the damage done and restore the world to its previous state.
According to Square Enix, Lost Sphear will “expand upon the beloved features from their debut title, I Am Setsuna“, and will feature “an enhanced gameplay system with a revamped ATB battle system where players can strategize and freely adjust their placement mid-fight, seamless environments, and various locations to explore.” Lost Sphear will also introduce a new gameplay element referred to as the “power of Memory”, in which players can use Kanata’s memories of those lost to manifest thoughts into matter, introducing new tools and items into the battlefield.
