Lords of the Fallen 2 Gets a New Developer, Defiant Studios

Lords of the Fallen 2 was announced in 2015, after the release of its previous installment the year before. Back when publisher CI Games confirmed its plan for a Lords of the Fallen sequel, it was also revealed that the lead developer behind the first game would not be involved. At the time, CI’s plan was to launch Lords of the Fallen 2 by sometime in 2017; after the recent news, it seems that the game is still a ways off from release. Nevertheless, the New York City-based Defiant Studios has been attached as the title’s lead developer as CI assured fans a Lords of the Fallen sequel is still coming.

CI Games made the announcement on Twitter, issuing press release through its website simultaneously. While Defiant Studios is a new studio with no titles under its belt yet, it is comprised of industry veterans and founded by the former studio head and game director of Avalanche Studios.

“We talked to a number of globally respected studios that had shown a strong interest in making the next LotF, and received several solid pitches,” said CI Games Chief Executive Officer, Marek Tymiński. “We finally decided to move forward with Defiant because we were impressed with their game concept, production expertise, and the pedigree of their developers. Defiant is made up of some the industry’s most talented creators, and we are thrilled to have them create the sequel to LotF.”

Defiant’s founder and Managing Director, David Grijns, said that the two companies had been in talks for “several months now.” While no new release window for Lords of the Fallen 2 was given, it’s probable that we’ll be waiting a while as Grijns added that the studios’ communications had been a “detailed process of getting to know one another’s expectations and motivations in regards to Lords of the Fallen 2.”

Lords of the Fallen was released in 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. More information on its sequel has yet to be revealed by either CI Games or its new developer, Defiant Studios.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
