Lollipop Chainsaw Developer Announces Game’s Return on 10th Anniversary

Break out your pom-poms and chainsaws! After 10 long years, Lollipop Chainsaw makes an unexpected return from an announcement on Twitter. First spotted by Siliconera, Yoshimi Yasuda, the former CEO of Kadokawa Games, tweeted the game’s return on Tuesday evening by the newly formed Dragami Games, a day after celebrating its 10th anniversary. The announcement brought speculation and excitement from fans, with many wondering if this return will mean a new remaster, remake, or even a new sequel.

For those unaware, Lollipop Chainsaw is a wild hack-and-slash action game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture in collaboration with filmmaker James Gunn. You take the role of Juliet Starling, an eccentric cheerleader turned zombie hunter, fighting through hordes of zombies alongside the disembodied head of her boyfriend. Lollipop Chainsaw was released in 2012 initially for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video by Kadokawa in Japan and Warner Bros to mostly positive acclaim for its wild and energetic world.

Yasuda recently retired from his position as CEO of Kadokawa games after serving for 14 years this June, moving over to Dragami Games to continue his work as a developer. On May 26, 2022, Kadokawa Games announced the formation of Dragami Games on Twitter, explaining that the new game company was formed after a corporate split with Kadokawa games and will divest part of its business into the latter. Along with Lollipop Chainsaw, the new studio inherited other Kadokawa games IPs including Demon Gaze, NAtURAL DOCtRINE, GOD WARS, The Lost Child, Root Letter, Root Film, LoveR, and Relayer.

Lollipop Chainsaw gave fans a wild and bloody good time. Hopefully, whatever this announcement brings will be able to keep the up with the insanity that the original owns so well.
