Just yesterday, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA revealed the story trailer for a new game called Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. The game will be releasing in a matter of weeks on February 21st, 2025 according to the trailer, but on the Steam page, the release date says February 20th. The game will be releasing on Xbox, PlayStation 4 and 5, and on PC from Steam. The game is also available for pre-purchase.
The trailer shows the main character, Captain Goro Majima, an ex-yakuza. Suddenly he finds himself at a remote island. The island they stumbled upon is a land of “petty laws and regulations, a place that light can never reach,” all according to the speaker.
According to the Steam page, Captain Majima, unable to remember his own name, embarks on a journey in search for any clues to gain his memory back. He is accompanied by a young boy named Noah, who has saved Captain Majima’s life. While in search for these memories, they are thrown into conflict with other modern-day pirates, criminals, and other scoundrels for legendary treasure.
Players can assemble a unique crew while also upgrading their ships as they explore the open sea. Along the way, players can make friendships and bonds as well as fighting against other enemies.
The Steam page says this about the combat, “When an enemy pirate ship catches you in their sights, an exhilarating real-time cannon battle breaks out. Quickly maneuver into position while avoiding fire, then deliver devastating damage to board the enemy ship and take down the captain in all-out crew vs. crew brawls. Conquer the seas, discover hidden islands and acquire loads of loot like a true yakuza pirate!”
Players can also switch from “Mad Dog” and “Sea Dog” fighting skills to mix-up attacks and deliver combos to the enemy. “Mad Dog” style utilizes speed and agility while “Sea Dog” will allow players to wield dual short swords.
There is also a warning of mature content. The developers said, “This game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work: Blood, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, and Use of Tobacco and Alcohol.”
