Lies Of P was expected to arrive on Game Pass on September 19, but is now available today the 18th. The release has been confirmed by Xbox VP of Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg and the game will be released on Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam. Customers who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition of the game were granted access to the game three days before its actual release.
Lies Of P is an “Action souls-like game set in a Belle Époque world” according to developer and publisher Neowiz. Additionally, the game is loosely based on the adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Instead of possessing a nose that grows as he tells lies, Pinocchio, or known as’P’ in the game, possesses a sword and a large amount of bloodlust.
In the game, players stalk around the world in search of other puppets to hunt down. The genre of the game is known as a Soulsborne and it is reminiscent of the game Bloodborne, perhaps too reminiscent. The combat system in the game is melee based with the game offering you three styles of weaponry. These styles include a rapier, a scorpion-style spear and a mechanical arm that can be equipped with other flavors of attack like a knife attached to the rotating arm of P. The enemies seen in the game are reduced to literal mincemeat as you mow down enemies with your preferred method of melee combat.
Although the game is heavily attached to the Soulsborne genre and very reminiscent of Bloodborne, the game nevertheless offers its own additions to the genre conventions. For instance, healing items can be recharged by attacking instead of simply returning to a bonfire equivalent which encourages players to be more aggressive when it comes to combat. This, in turn, encourages players to further explore the regions of the world without constantly having to worry about low health.
The game currently has a Metacritic score of 82 on PS5 and PC and a score of 84 on Xbox Series X|S.
