Lethal Company Outsells Call Of Duty On Steam

There been an indie title that been making waves at the moment called Lethal Company, and it has quickly become one of the more popular games out right now in the past couple of weeks. The co-op survival horror game has become largely popular due to its insane word of mouth, YouTubers and social media alike have also helped heavily in the game’s success. Very much reminiscent of Among Us back in 2020. You can read more in-depth about the title and its creators here. The game is only available on PC at the moment and on Steam it has quickly become bestseller. What’s even crazier is that the indie title has become the top seller on the Steam shop, passing the likes of industry Juggernaut Call Of Duty with their very recent release of Modern Warfare 3. It’s currently second only to the Steam Deck.

Since Lethal Company released on October 23rd, it’s quickly risen through all of Steam’s charts. On Steam250, the game currently sits at the number 1 spot of best games released in 2023 with rating of 99% passing the likes of Resident Evil 4 and Baldur’s Gate 3. It is also the best-reviewed game on Steam with an overwhelmingly positive reception and 97.29% approval rating. On SteamDB it currently has the 5th highest player count, with an impressive 99,858 concurrent players, and an all-time peak of 184,015.

This hopefully is a wake-up call to larger studios to realize that quality games do exist despite the smaller teams and budgets. If you make it, players will come. On sadder news it’s very unfortunate that it released post-Game Award nominations because Lethal Company would very clearly win the best indie title of the year, despite the controversies surrounding the nominees of this year. Hopefully, the developers of the game, Zeekerss, continue to support the game for as long as players want, this could easily become a title that players continue to return to even years down the line. Lethal Company looks to be a lighting-in-a-bottle type title that isn’t just a game of the week.
