One of the most beloved co-op gaming franchises of the current generation is, coincidentally, a beloved toy company as well, LEGO. The company’s latest game, LEGO Voyagers, released on September 15th, reintroducing the world to digital brick-based gameplay.
LEGO has been producing video games for three decades now. The first of their projects in this field to reach major success was the iconic LEGO Star Wars, which became the template for nearly all of their games moving forward. The whimsical humor and casual difficulty allowed many young players to grow up with the games they produced, with each game supporting co-op play. While this formula would eventually fail to garner the same attention it received when it was unveiled in 2005, it did improve on itself over the years. Those years of development have finally led to LEGO Voyagers, a game that is both simpler and more open than its predecessors.
During the launch trailer, the core gameplay for LEGO Voyagers is laid out. In the game, players assume control of one of two 1×1 bricks with an eyeball attached to their fronts. The game leans more on the co-op aspects of its design than most others, with a partner being required to play the other brick in order to complete the challenges the game has to offer. This is made painless by the ability for friends to play together so long as one owns the game. True to its source material, the game allows players to construct builds with LEGOs in order to progress, while also being tasked with solving puzzles reminiscent of older LEGO games. The experience is quick, taking only several hours for focused players to complete.
Countless children who played LEGO games have now grown up. This title offers the chance for those fans to share a new yet familiar experience with younger siblings or children. The game is available for both consoles and PC today.
