It looks like the newest LEGO title is making some serious waves in the gaming community. In fact, it’s doing so well that it now towers above all of the other iterations that came out before it. Warner Bros. has announced that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has sold more than 3.2 million units in less than two weeks since it released. According to the company, that means that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga had the best global launch in franchise history, and in the process set a new launch record. Not bad for a series that started way back in 1995.
This impressive statistic had a bit of foreshadowing when the game set the record for concurrent players on a LEGO title for Steam on PC. That in and of itself is already impressive, but when you add this to the newest tidbit of information, it only emphasizes the overall launch and anticipation for this now mammoth LEGO title. This is also an astounding feat when you consider that the LEGO franchise also houses several successful IPs. This includes Marvel’s Avengers, Batman, as well as Jurassic Park. With that in mind, this newest entry is also the largest by a wide margin as it spans all 9 major Star Wars in one whole sitting.
The very first LEGO Star Wars title was released back in 2005 for multiple systems. It was generally well-received and spawned an entirely new franchise for the Star Wars universe. The first entry only covered the prequel trilogy of films while the second went through the original three films. A compilation soon followed while two more entries were released much later, both of which covered the Clone Wars and the first film of the sequel trilogy respectively.
