Lego City Undercover, previously a Wii U exclusive will be taking its talents to the newly announced Nintendo Switch, as well as PS4 and Xbox One. The game is going to be re-released in Spring 2017. It was originally released in March 2013 for the Wii U. The move to the Nintendo Switch makes it one of the first games to be confirmed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch.
Developer Lego said that the game will function both as a re-release and a remastered version for the new platforms. However, it is unknown if it is going to be a straight port or if there will be improvements and additional components to the new game.
Unlike many of the previous Lego games, Lego City Undercover has you take the role of an undercover police officer named Chase McCain to bring the criminals to justice.
GameSpot’s Kevin VanOrd said the following the game’s story in his official review of the game:
By the time Lego City Undercover’s story comes to an end, you have guided Chase through every action-movie circumstance imaginable, and have probably seen the ‘twists’ coming a mile away. And that’s perfectly OK. The game knows you know where it’s going, and it has fun at its own expense … There are bigger, more complex, more beautiful open-world games on the market. But none of them are this good at making you feel so young at heart.
Tom Bramwell of EuroGamer said in his review of Lego City Undercover that the game went “undercover” to create a good detective game. He says that the developers “[lurked] behind the smokescreens of Gotham City and the galaxy far away as it evolved into an accomplished developer capable of charming players with a mixture of great writing, twinkling level design and laudable values that keep you coming back regardless.”
Some of the most popular Lego games to date are Lego Harry Potter, Lego Dimensions and Lego Batman. Lego also hit the big screen with The Lego Movie as well as YouTube with Epic Rap Battles of History releasing an episode called Zeus vs Thor, featuring Lego versions of Zeus and Thor instead of other YouTube content creators.
