It’s been quite sometime since we last got an update on Square Enix’s next big project Kingdom Hearts III. The last bit of news we got came from Disney’s D23 event that happened back in July. During the Level Up portion of the convention a few games were given an in depth look and Kingdom Hearts III seemed to receive the most attention with the reveal of a Toy Story world as well as a 2018 release window.
Since then, there has been little to no new developments about the title other than more news will be revealed next year. However, a couple supposed “leaked” images have risen on the internet that might spark big fans of the series interest. Kingdom Hearts games usually don’t get leaked, so this should be taken strictly as a rumor but by chance that this leak is plausible then fans sure have something to be excited about.
The two screenshots have been posted on ResetEra by user Wrestlerman that he stated were taken from a FTP server. Within the screenshots, you can see Sora, Donald, and Goofy all in monster form along with Mike Wazowski and Sully from the movie Monster’s Inc. It appears that if this is indeed a world within the game then Mike and Sully will be joining Sora and his friends as party members within the world. The screenshots also contain what seems to be unversed enemies that were initially introduced in the series through the prequel Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.
This could confirm that the Unversed enemy type as well as the character Vanitas will indeed play a role within the game, if this leak is legit that is. One aspect of the leak that does not support it’s credibility however is that the HUD remains unchanged even though the characters themselves are in monster form. Usually if the character’s appearances transform within the world then their HUD icons do as well. But the leaked images are said to be taken from a developer build of the game so this could easily be written off as an incomplete version of the HUD. Whether or not this is real or fake fans do seem to be excited that Kingdom Hearts III is still on the radar.
UPDATE: The models used in the HUD are the same models used in the Rock Troll Heartless battle within the city of Thebes screenshot from MAGIC 2017, and is not the HUD used within the moe recent trailers that came from the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra in June or the Toy Story announcement trailer in July.
