A mysterious tweet today was posted showing what appears to be an image of what Nintendo’s new console will look like. Below is the image:
The hand-held console design appears to be problematic, that is if this “leaked” image is in fact the official NX. One of the obvious problems that is quite noticeable is the immensely large central screen. The picture show the NX folding inwards to shrink in between the pads on the sides, but this appears to be highly implausible given the screen’s size. Unless Nintendo uses some bendable OLED, it’s not clear how the screen will be able to fold inside of the pads. The design also doesn’t definitively confirm reports that the NX will return to cartridge-based media. The back is not pictured, but it doesn’t appear to use cartridges. The image also contradicts earlier reports that the console will feature detachable controllers on the sides. It doesn’t appear to have these detachable controllers.
According to Digitalspy, the image was posted earlier this morning by the user @guythefigher, whose description of the image, after translating it on Google Translate, states:
Announcements or from Nintendo, will tell the update information of the home page, Please pardon because it does not have to answer to you questions and inquiries.
The translation is not the best, but the gist of it is clear. The tweet does not make it clear where the image comes from or how the person behind its release was able to obtain the image; it simply makes it clear that they do not have further information on the image and will wait for further announcements from Nintendo. Many believe that Nintendo will release more information on the NX (possibly what it will look like) when they announce their new hardware during or before the Tokyo Game Show, which starts on September 15.
Nintendo fans have been awaiting the official NX reveal ever since Nintendo confirmed they were making a new console. However, they’ve remained very secretive with any information and not much has been revealed in the year after it was confirmed. However, it does appear that the hand-held console will be an extremely portable device, and could be a great successor to the 3DS and the Wii U.
UPDATE 9/7/16: IN A NEOGAF FORUM, IT APPEARS THAT A MEMBER BY THE NAME ‘MDAVE’ CREATED THE FAKE IMAGE.
