This morning, a leak by LongSensation, a YouTuber has revealed the title of this year’s Call of Duty. The title of the game is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and it is a “soft reboot” of the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
According to Kotaku, “Activision has been showing the game to the press and “influencers” (YouTubers and streamers) for a week or two now.” Kotaku has confirmed this information with many sources close to Call of Duty. Ironically enough, the game is being developed by Infinity Ward who has developed the Modern Warfare series of Call of Duty. Kotaku also reports that the game will be “heavy on troubling, realistic emotional moments” inspired by Modern Warfare 2′s No Russian mission where you take out civilians. According to Kotaku, more information about the game will be shared very soon “likely next week”.
Earlier in the week, Kotaku also reported news about next year’s Call of Duty which will be going through a “major upheaval”. The game is changing developers which is common for the Call of Duty franchise since the game was set up to switch development teams every year, but Activision has informed Raven and Sledgehammer who were leading the development that Treyarch is now in charge and that they are going to make Black Ops 5.
The report shared information on what the next Call of Duty was going to be and how the plans for the campaign will be adjusted for Black Ops 5. A major factor for the switch is the tension between Raven and Sledgehammer. The report also reveals that this game will be cross-gen and will be releasing with the next generation of consoles as well as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
