Leak Reveals New Harry Potter Open-World RPG Game

A Reddit User, VapeThisBro, leaked a video this morning that shows the development of a new Harry Potter game that has players take the role of a 5th-year student at Hogwarts. The video can be viewed here, but Warner Bros has been taking down videos that showcase the footage so this link may or may no longer be available.

Eurogamer has confirmed that this project is in development, and there have been several updates since this story came out including possible titles for the game.

The game has been described as a third-person action game by VapeThisBro, the leaker. He also provided a summary of what the game may be about.

“Upon arrival, strange events begin to materialize in the Forbidden Forrest and trouble begins to brew within the castle walls. Together with Professor Elezar Fig, you embark on a journey through both familiar and never-before-seen locations to bring to light the truth behind these mysterious occurrences. On your quest you will craft potions, master new spells, and discover fantastical beasts, you will battle Dark Wizards, Goblins, and other supernatural enemies and uncover the truth about your destiny – the Fate of the Wizarding World lies in your hands.”

There have been some theories as to who would be developing the game. Many were guessing Rocksteady, the developer behind the majority of the Batman: Arkham trilogy, was overseeing the project. They did tease a AAA project back in September, so many speculated this could have been it. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case any longer if recent developments from inside sources are accurate.

Avalanche Software, the developers of the Disney Infinity series, has been reported to be the ones behind this new upcoming game. This would make sense, as after the closure of Disney’s video game branch (Interactive Studios), the Utah-based developer was eventually picked up by none other than Harry Potter studio Warner Bros. Interactive. As to when the game may come out, multiple reports have said that the game is at least a year away from launch.
