Yay! More Pokémon Sun and Moon info! This time, we finally get to the deciding factor for most people, what does the other game have that I want?
Those unfamiliar with the last twenty years of Pokémon history should know that with each generation there are certain Pokémon , besides the featured legendary that one version has that the other doesn’t. Like every trailer, the Pokémon website has a new batch of descriptions, let’s check them out.
The first is the Sun exclusive Passimian. It’s a Fighting-type with the new ability Receiver which allows it to inherit the ability of any ally Pokémon that faints. Passimians live in large groups, usually 20-30, and all follow a leader. As you can see from the picture Passimians are fans of throwing berries at enemies and they’re pretty snooty about technique. A Passimian will watch their trainer throw Pokéballs and if they don’t like their technique they won’t listen to their trainer.
If you are a fan of Pokémon Moon and monkeys or are still clinging to that Harambe thing, then you’ll love the next version exclusive. Oranguru is a Normal/Psychic-type and lives a solitary life mostly consisting of meditating high up in trees. Once upon a time people in Alola thought that Orangurus were people and called them “the people of the forest”. Orangurus have been seen using items only humans would use. Some even say they’ve seen them use Pokéballs. Oranguru also has the new move instruct which forces a Pokémon to use their most recent move again immediately.
The next exclusive is actually the same Pokémon, just different forms. In Sun, players can find Rockruff’s evolution Lycanroc in its Midday form a. In Moon, players can find its Midnight form. Visually, the two are very different. Lycanroc’s Midday form is more of a straight evolution whereas the Midnight form has a Werewolfy vibe to it. This is due to Lunala’s influence and the abundance of lunar energy. The opposite is true for the Midday form. The two forms also have exclusive moves Midday Lycanroc can learn Accelerock and Midnight can learn Counter.
In a trailer released last week, it was revealed that Sun and Moon will have exclusive Ultra Beasts. Players will encounter UB-02 Absorption in Sun and UB-02 Beauty in Moon. UB-02 Absorption’s entire body is covered in muscles, and a punch from it is said to be off the charts. UB-02 Beauty has long graceful legs that allow it to run at incredible speeds. Beauty has the unique ability to cause anyone become infatuated with it and refuse to fight. Some say that it’s due to a pheromone it releases. Others say that it’s a hypnotic effect.
The trailer showed off some of the player customization that will be available in both games and that Pikachu and Eevee will get exclusive z-moves. Pikachu’s is called Catastropika and Eevee’s is called Extreme Evoblast. The Pokémonamie feature will get an update as well allowing players to clean their Pokémon, curing them of status effects.
Pokémon Sun and Moon will be available November 18th for all Nintendo handhelds.
