Coming with the release of the upcoming Renfield movie starring Nicolas Cage is a video game made by Mega Cat Studios according to IGN aptly titled Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood. The game is already available for early access at $4.49 on Steam with the full game coming out later.
The Renfield video game will use properties of the movie to immerse the player. Players will have access to multiple characters, each with their own abilities and skills, to slay hordes of enemies with the end goal of finding victims for Dracula. Additionally, Dracula will also send the player on “fetch quests” akin to Renfield in the movies. James Deighan, founder of Mega Cat Studios, expresses his excitement for the game by saying:
“Our team is so excited to bring our expertise in fun, retro-style games that are filled with wild humor to the amazing world of Renfield,” said James Deighan, founder of developer Mega Cat Studios. “It’s an incredible opportunity for us to be working on this with Skybound and Universal Games and Digital Platforms.”
Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood is being heavily compared to another game called Vampire Survivors, which came out a couple years before Renfield did. Vampire Slayers is a single-player rogue-like game that can also be found on Steam that came out in 2022. Developed by Poncle, Vampire Slayers is a rogue-like survival game in which the goal is to survive as long as possible. The longer the player plays, the more items, gold and abilities they get to use to survive more hordes of enemies. One of the highlights of the game is its simplicity, only requiring the player to move around as the game fires the character’s abilities automatically.
Vampire Slayers’ simplicity and gameplay made it a hit, which has been replicated by many franchises and games since, one of which now being Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood. The early access for the game released on April 12, just two days before the movie is set to come out, probably attempting to build anticipation for the upcoming blockbuster Renfield.
