The Survival MMO, Last Oasis, has announced that it will be making available a closed beta soon. The game is currently in a state of early access where prospective players may be able to get involved at this stage of development by visiting the Steam page. It is set to be a massively open world title and the full version will be bringing loads of new and revised content in order to perfect vehicle and combat mechanics. Yesterday, sign-ups for the testing of the closed beta went up and can be found here.
Last Oasis is developed by Donkey Crew and takes place in a time where the Earth has stopped its rotation. Those that have survived need to outrun the Sun’s flaming rays in order to live. This is done by players customizing and creating their very own Walkers, which are wooden, wind-powered machines. They are used in almost every corner of the game, whether that be traveling, harvesting resources, fighting, or provided shelter. Survivors must also hone their melee combat skills with either a one-handed sword, two-handed sword, mace, axe, quarterstaff, or ranged weapons that can be found on Walkers. One can become a fighter of all types or specialize in a particular style.
Riding Walkers to the new haven of eastern lands, players will explore new territories where only a narrow strip of Earth can support life between the extreme heat or cold. Somewhat similar to the concept of the movie Mortal Engines, humanity has been able to construct a Walker-city to transport nomads named Flotilla. The city harbors survivors, but also sees its fair share of individuals that have already accumulated political influence and higher status throughout the economy.
Last Oasis’ player driven economy will focus heavily on trade that is based on real supply and demand of certain supplies. Trade routes can be run or nomads can choose to attack their competition or simply hunt for resources on their own outside of a structured clan. Riding solo comes with the risk of not having the support of others around you, however the rewards are much higher alone.
The open world consists of oases that can number in the thousands, which adjusts to accommodate how many players are playing at the same time. Each can range in what type of biome resides there and the full version will be adding new types of biomes. Nomads must bring enough water when traveling through No-Man’s Land, which is the open desert between oases.
Last Oasis has so firm release date, but is projected to launch sometime in Spring of this year on PC.
