Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb – Will Titanfall Remain a Microsoft Platform Exclusive?

If you’re one of the 525,000 pre-order holders of an Xbox One in the U.S., you likely have Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall on your radar. The upcoming FPS from the guys who ushered in the modern Call of Duty has thus far remained an exclusive to the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.

In an Xbox One subreddit, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb – Director of Programming for Xbox Live, said “As far as being an exclusive that’s really a question for Titanfall – I’m not worried about it though.”

All the way back in June in an interview with Eurogamer, Respawn Lead artist Joel Emslie expressed how much the team wanted “it on as many platforms as possible.”

When asked bluntly whether or not PlayStation owners would ever get their hands on Titanfall, Emslie said:

It’s definitely not out of the question. We have a huge appreciation for the fans. Coming out and showing it to everybody, we’re super nervous and wanted to make sure everybody loved it. We love all our fans, whatever console they support. So yeah. We want to make everybody happy, but this is where we’re at right now.

Call of Duty had unprecedented success on the Xbox 360 due to the consoles unmatched online experience, so Respawn’s relationship with Microsoft makes sense.

However, with momentum building behind the PlayStation 4 (its pre-order numbers are currently outpacing the Xbox One’s) combined with the rising development cost of games, don’t be surprised if Titanfall finds its way onto Sony’s console in the future. At the very least expect Titanfall 2 to be a multi-platform release.
