It’s been a while since we last heard of any major updates to Larian Studio’s Baldur’s Gate III. The game has been in Early Access since late 2020, and while we are expecting a full release sometime in 2023, no concrete date has been given. This might change in just a few short days, as the studio has released a short teaser video showing a brand new character that ends with the promise of a reveal of sorts this Thursday during The Game Awards 2022. Many fans are now speculating that this is the long awaited release date announcement, and if so, this is easily the most appropriate platform to do it on.
The character that appears in the short teaser trailer was immediately identified by the fanbase as Minsc, who has apparently been turned into a giant statue and has been placed at the titular city in Baldur’s Gate. We see the aforementioned statue in darkness until a bolt of lightning strikes it, causing the foliage to burn away. Then the statue’s eyes begin to glow, which could signify Minsc’s return to the fold. The gloomy atmosphere of the trailer covers Minsc’s true nature as he is mostly known as a comic relief character in the lore of Dungeons and Dragons. Either way, it looks like Minsc will play a major role of sorts in the title.
As we mentioned earlier, Baldurs Gate III is currently in Early Access on PC, in which it became available in October 2020. The game has been steadily receiving updates since then, and in the Summer of 2021, it got a plethora of new features that added more replayable content. The game was initially revealed during the very first Stadia Connect in 2019, and was promised title for the platform. Unfortunately due to Stadia being shut down early next year, that will no longer be a possibility.
