L.A. Noire Updated for Current Generation Consoles, HTC Vive

Rockstar Games’ detective-inspired action game, L.A. Noire, will receive a facelift when the title rereleases for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and HTC Vive in November.

The company made the announcement through their Newswire blog, with a simultaneous Nov. 14 release date across platforms. This year’s updated release marks the first time the game is available on a Nintendo console and Rockstar’s virtual reality debut.

Switch and Vive owners will play a slightly different Noire than the 2011 original, since Rockstar is adding features and abridging the game respectively for these platforms. On the Switch, HD rumble, gesture and touch screen controls have been added to the experience. All of the previous DLC from the past console generation is included.

Players opting for the Vive edition have a condensed game to play through, which offers a unique take on the crime thriller. Officially titled L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, virtual reality enthusiasts will be centerstage in seven of the original’s cases. Real world motions such as grabbing, free-hand drawing and vehicle steering have been added to further the virtual reality experience.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions hold true to the original, as there are no new controls. Instead, Rockstar is taking advantage of the technological improvements these consoles have over their predecessors by adding better lighting, high resolution textures and more cinematic camera angles.

Further graphical enhancements are available on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, which will run L.A. Noire at 4K instead of 1080p on the base PS4 and Xbox One systems. The one similarity between these versions and the Switch’s is the inclusion of all additional content.

Over the game’s lifespan, five cases (one of which was originally part of the main game for the North American PS3 version), two weapons and two outfits were released as add-ons.

L.A. Noire will launch Nov. 14 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and HTC Vive.
