It’s hard to believe that Konami is about to celebrate it’s 50th anniversary. The company seems pretty excited about it, and to commemorate their 50 years in the gaming industry they have announced that they will be releasing three new compilations. The first is compiled of many of it’s early arcade hits. Simply dubbed the Konami Anniversary Collection: Arcade Classics we’ve already got the complete list for the first collection which includes:
- Haunted Castle
- A-Jax (aka Typhoon)
- Gradius
- Gradius 2
- Life Force
- Thunder Cross
- Scramble
- TwinBee
Excited fans won’t have to wait long for this collection as it is slated to be released digitally in just about a month on April 20. In addition to this collection Konami will also be releasing the Castlevania: Anniversary Collection early this summer which will also include eight titles. However, we currently know of four which have been revealed to be Castlevania, Castlevania 2: Belmont’s Revenge, Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, and Super Castlevania 4.
Finally, fans of the Contra series surely won’t be left out because Konami has also revealed the Contra: Anniversary Collection. which is also confirmed to contain eight titles. The ones already confirmed for this collection are Contra, Super Contra, Super C, and Contra 3: The Alien Wars. This collection has received an early Summer release window as well.
As for the other titles that will make up both of these Anniversary collections, we can only speculate on which ones will be added to the mix. A couple of choices are Castlevania: Bloodlines and Contra: Hard Corps, but only time will what Konami chooses if they will make the cut. According to Konami’s website, each collection will include a digital book that contains “interviews with the development staff, behind-the-scenes insights, and sketches and design documents never before revealed to the public.” These collections will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
