Summer Game Fest was over the weekend, filled with presentations from Sony Interactive Entertainment, the Summer Game Fest Showcase, Day of the Devs, the Capcom Showcase, the Devolver Digital Showcase, the Tribeca Games Spotlight, the Epic Games Store Summer Showcase, the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, and more. During the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, one of the bigger announcements was a new partnership with Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions. They are working together on a new game. One “like no one has ever experienced before, leveraging the cloud.” Afterward, there was some trepidation amongst fans regarding the relationship with Sony and PlayStation, who collaborated with each other on Death Stranding and the Metal Gear Solid series. Kojima Productions went to Twitter and released a statement about its relationship with SIE, saying that they will “continue to have a very good partnership with PlayStation as well.”
After the announcement of our partnership with Microsoft using the cloud technology, many people have asked us about our collaboration with SIE. Please be assured that we continue to have a very good partnership with PlayStation® as well.#KojimaProductions https://t.co/mVOELwDuk9

Kojima Productions also talked about its plans for the future. “As an independent creative studio, KojimaProductions will continue pursuing work on creations for our fans. We will explore various possibilities with games, movies, and music through platforms that evolve with time and technology. We look forward to your continued support!”
Talking about the new partnership and game, Hideo Kojima said “Yes, there is a game I have always wanted to make. It’s a completely new game, one that no one has ever experienced or seen before. I’ve waited very long for the day when I could finally start to create it. With Microsoft’s cutting-edge cloud technology and the change in the industry’s trend, it has now become possible to challenge myself to make this never-before-seen concept. It may take some time, but I’m looking forward to teaming up with Xbox Game Studios and hope to bring you some exciting news in the future!” As to what kind of game will Hideo Kojima be making, we may already know the answer.
Prior to the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, a leak may have revealed Kojima’s next game. Tom Henderson reportedly received early footage of the next game. It will be a horror game that is supposedly called Overdose. It was also reported that the game will star actress Margaret Qualley, who has worked with Kojima before, playing the character Mama in Death Stranding. According to Henderson, the footage he received showed Qualley’s character walking through dark corridors with a flashlight in third person. A jump scare ensues and then “Game Over” appears on the screen, followed by “A Hideo Kojima Game…” Henderson also said that the game will be playable in first person. Nothing has been officially announced and nothing was revealed during the Showcase.
Kojima Productions’ partnership with SIE and PlayStation will continue with Death Stranding, most likely. Actor Norman Reedus may have inadvertently let the cat out of the bag when he said in an interview that a sequel for Death Stranding is happening and that production has started.
We’ll have to wait and see what Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions is working on next when they are officially revealed… whenever that may be.
