The Knights Of The Old Republic remake announcement all the way back at PlayStation showcase 2021 was one of the more exciting things announced to be happening. Star Wars fans rejoiced as they were getting some much wanted RPG action as both old and new fans alike held much anticipation for the in progress title. Now since said announcement 2 years ago there has been no mention or update from Aspyr media regarding the games progress and this has had fans worried for a long time now. With accompanied reports from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier saying that the game was delayed indefinitely back in July of 2022 accompanied with the lack of information from the studio behind the remake, alarm bells were not longer ringing, but blaring.
To add fuel to the fire, it was reported today from a reliable industry insider Jeff Grubb on his Game mess podcast that the Knights Of The Old Republic remake is not moving forward, with no studios currently working on it. Now while there’s no confirmation from Aspyr, this being the one piece of news coming in the past year is troubling and sadly may just be true.
I just want to clear it up, this game is not being worked on. Just full stop, This game is not being worked on in any way, at any studio – Jeff Grubb, Game Mess Podcast
This is also accompanied with some even less affirming comments from Embracer, Aspyr parent company, when the CEO Lars Wingefors shot down a question in a Q2 financial report Q&A. When being asked about a comment on the KOTOR remake Lars said “I notice that anything I say to this becomes a headline. So that is my only comment.” via Seeking Alpha. This just adds to the very rocky development of this KOTOR remake and sadly it looking more and more likely that this title will never see the light of day.
