Need something to do while you wait for KH3?
While we are still eagerly waiting for any and all news on Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts 3, we can at least play their mobile installment to the Kingdom Hearts series while we wait. Called Kingdom Hearts Unchained X, the game is free to download and encapsulates all the whimsy and sparkle as the large title KH games. Players are able to custom create their own Keyblade master avatar and begin their Disney/Square inspired adventure on their smartphone.
Sadly, no word yet on a European release.
It’s avaliable for all iOS and Android devices as of today in US regions. Check out the Launch trailer below!
A big selling point for the game is meeting familiar Disney/Final Fantasy characters, as well as facing off against new and old enemies, and–get this–the story takes place before the Keyblade Wars, making it a prequel on top of being the series’ first ever smartphone app.
KINGDOM HEARTS is a tale about Light and Friendship overcoming the power of Darkness. Over the last 15 years, millions of fans have experienced the epic tale of King Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and more than 100 Disney characters joining forces with Sora, Keyblade warriors, and heroes from Square Enix’s popular FINAL FANTASY video game series as they battle to protect their friends and save all worlds from the Heartless.
Players will need to collect mysterious light matter called LUX, fight Heartless, and strengthen their keyblades. Further customisations can be done with Disney/FF inspired gear (meaning heros or villains!), and players can even meet up with their friends and battle alongside each other in game!
When asked for a statement, franchise director Tetsuya Nomura, had this to say:
We wanted to thank all the KINGDOM HEARTS fans for patiently waiting for the launch of KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ in North America. We would love for everyone to dive into the world of KINGDOM HEARTS not only through this title, but through the upcoming titles, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and KINGDOM HEARTS III. As an origins story, there are many elements in the game that new players can enjoy. The game can also be easily picked up and played, so it would be great if fans new and old, take the opportunity to play the game.
The download requires 700MB–but developers recommend having 1.1 GB to play, as it expands after installation. So, go ahead and start deleting those old selfies.
You can download KH Unchained X in the App Store or Google Play today!
Hopefully more on Kingdom Hearts III and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 soon.
