Last month, Nintendo revealed in a Nintendo Direct that the last Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character reveal would be happening today. Earlier this morning, Masahiro Sakurai, the Super Smash Bros. series director revealed that Sora from the Kingdom Hearts series has joined the fight. Like the past Challenger packs, this last one includes a new stage and a selection of music tracks from the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Challenger Pack 11 costs $5.99 and its also part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2. The Fighters Pass Vol.2 costs $29.99 and also includes Min Min from ARMS, Steve & Alex from Minecraft, Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Pyra/Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Kazuya from the TEKKEN franchise. Sora will be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on October 18.
Sora is the protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series, a young boy who wields the iconic keyblade and traverses Disney and Pixar worlds battling enemies known as the Heartless to overcome darkness and restore peace to the realms. Inspired by his moves from the series, Sora excels at fighting in the air. His jumps are high and his movements are light and soft. Sora can also perform powerful, combo-based attacks with the keyblade. He can attack straight-on, in the air and perform side smashes. Sora can also utilize magic as he does in Kingdom Hearts and cast the Firaga, Thundaga and Blizzaga spells. Sora’s Final Smash is called “Sealing the Keyhole”.
The new stage coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Hallow Bastion, a location Kingdom Hearts fans will recognize. Players will also travel to a stage inspired by Dive to the Heart as the battle nears its end in Hollow Bastion. The special area will have visuals with familiar faces from the Kingdom Hearts series. 9 music tracks are being added. These include Night of Fate, Destiny’s Force, Shrouding Dark Cloud, Hand in Hand, Blast Away! -Gummi Ship II-, Hollow Bastion, Scherzo Di Notte, Fragments of Sorrow, and Destati. Players can also get the song “Dearly Beloved – Swing Version” from Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory if they have save data from the game. The new Spirit Board stars characters from Kingdom Hearts such as Riku, Kairi, and Roxas. Challenger Pack 11 also adds new paid in-game costumes for the Mii Fighter including Doom Slayer, Octoling Wig, and Judd Hat.
The presentation also revealed that several games from the Kingdom Hearts series will be coming to the Nintendo Switch as cloud titles including Kingdom Hearts – HD 1.5+2.5 Remix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III+ Re Mind. More information about these games, including their release dates on Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.
