Square Enix and Disney announced a new entry into their long time running Kingdom Hearts series. Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory drastically deviates from the established series by switching genres and becoming a rhythm-based game. Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will be the series first collaboration between music and action-adventure gaming as well as the first time Kingdom Hearts will be going to the Nintendo Switch. The reveal as apart of video updating the world of Kingdom Hearts for 2020.
The footage showed is all an early development that is subject to change, but the mechanics are close to that one out expect out of a Guitar Hero type of game, out with a backdrop of Disney’s famous films and characters. Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory will have over 140 musical tracks and 20 characters from throughout the beloved series, mostly drawing from the latest iteration of the main trilogy including the complete original soundtrack.
Two other games were displayed as well. The very first one is Kingdom Hearts UnionX Cross. Kingdom Hearts UnionX Cross is a side-scrolling spin-off RPG. The game abandons more of the Disney properties in favor of original works, and the art style draws more heavily from anime as well, making a more distinct feel from the main games. The next game that was revealed is Kingdom Hearts Union Dark Roads. Kingdom Hearts Union Dark Roads is a Hearthstone inspired card-based game that explores the life of Xehanort.
Kingdom Hearts UnionX Cross and Kingdom Hearts Union Dark Roads are both tailored for mobile devices. Kingdom Hearts Union Dark Roads will be out on June 22 of this year. Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory will launch for the Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®4 system and Xbox One in the fall. All three games received an E 10+ rating from the ESRB.
