Looks like Xbox One owners will be able to play more than just Kingdom Hearts III on their systems. Arriving out of nowhere, one of the collections in the KH universe, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue has been listed on the Microsoft Store for the Xbox One. In addition, the release date on the listing seems to be set for February 18, Tuesday, which is less than a couple of weeks away.
For those who don’t know, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is the third and final compilation of KH games before the long awaited Kingdom Hearts III released last year. The collection consist of Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, Kingdom Hearts χ Black Cover, and Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance 3D. The first game is a mini sequel to the original Birth By Sleep game, as well as a prequel to Kingdom Hearts III. The second title is just a movie that ties into the third game, while the third one is an HD port of the Nintendo 3DS game.
The compilation initially released as an exclusive for the PlayStation 4 in 2017, as did the two previous ones in the series, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix. Those collections were also previously released on the PlayStation 3 before being repackaged into one whole set for the PlayStation 4 titled Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far. Finally, it was announced recently that a full, and complete collection of every Kingdom Hearts game so far, titled Kingdom Hearts All-in-One Package, will launch for the PlayStation 4 on March 17.
With the full compilation announced and the Final Chapter Prologue showing up on Microsoft’s store, we wouldn’t be surprised if the other games in the franchise eventually made their way to the Xbox One. Kingdom Hearts III is already available on the Xbox One. In fact it was only the fourth title in the series to be released for anything that wasn’t a Sony licensed system. The other three exceptions being the first iteration of Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories on the Game Boy Advance, a mobile game called Kingdom Hearts Coded, and the aforementioned Dream Drop Distance 3DS on Nintendo’s handheld.
Neither Square Enix nor Microsoft have made any statements in regards to this, but Xbox One owners should keep their eyes peeled for some an announcement at some point, and hopefully it will be much sooner than later. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is currently listed on the Microsoft store for the Xbox One and has a tentative date for February 18.
