A remaster of Killer7, the action game from Goichi ‘Suda51’ Suda, and Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, was announced during a celebratory 20th anniversary stream by hosted by Suda51’s studio, Grasshopper Manufacture. The HD remaster is expected to be coming to PC.
A couple months ago Suda51, stated that he would like to put out an updated version of the game “in the near future,” and it seems that he is abiding by that statement. The stream took place during MomoCon, the gaming and anime convention which is taking place in Atlanta, GA. The studio released a short teaser trailer showing off the characters in the game for those who are unfamiliar with the title. A quick rundown of the title and its history shows why this announcement is of considerable significance:
Dive into a dark world of underground assassins in a tale of revenge as Harman Smith, a man who manifests 7 deadly personalities into the real world, known as the killer7, Take control of this distinct murderers’ row as they hunt down the sinister Kun Lan, to stop his plan of world dominance, and end his organization of deadly suicide bombers known as ‘Heaven Smile’. For years, Suda51’s classic action-adventure title Killer7 has been highly desired among psychological thriller aficionados. And now, it’s finally coming back on Steam! Iconoclast writer/director Goichi Suda and legendary director Shinji Mikami bring back Killer7 for the first time in over 13 years, and fully rendered in high-definition
Another interested bit of information from the trailer was that the game will not be published by Capcom this time around. Instead, the remaster will be published by NIS. However, Capcom still holds rights to the title, so it is evident that they will be involved with the game somehow. There is currently no solid release date for the remaster, only that it is slated to be launched for Steam on PC sometime this year.
