A few weeks ahead of the release of Kill la Kill the Game: IF, a free demo for the game has been made available on the PlayStation 4. Developed by Arc System Works, Kill la Kill the Game: IF is an adaptation of the 2013 anime, Kill la Kill, by Studio Trigger. Though the demo is only currently available for the PS4, the full game is set to also release on the Nintendo Switch and PC.
The demo—which is over 7GB in size—takes players through the beginning of the game’s story mode, which is an introductory chapter. The story takes place in an alternate universe, separate from the anime. The demo also allows players to try out local versus mode with a limited roster of characters, so players can further try out the game’s mechanics, especially in competitive play. Several characters are available to play as from the get-go, including the show’s protagonist Ryuko Matoi and antagonist Satsuki Kiryuin, as well as Uzu Sanageyama and Ira Gamagoori.
Kill la Kill the Game: IF’s publisher, PQube, uploaded a “play guide” video on YouTube earlier today, delving into some of the fighting mechanics, such as button combos.
First announced at Anime Expo 2018, Kill la Kill the Game: IF was written by the original writer of the anime, Kazuki Nakashima. Kill la Kill follows Ryuko Matoi on her personal quest to find her father’s killer, which brings her to Honnouji Academy. There, she goes head-to-head with fierce student council president Satsuki Kiryuin, who reigns over the student body with other members of the student council. The students wear uniforms made of “life fibers,” which gives them superhuman abilities. Ryuko is armed with a scissor-shaped sword that can cut through clothes made of life fibers, making her a threat to Satsuki and her underlings.
Reportedly, Kill la Kill the Game: IF’s story mode will feature a new major villain instead of Ragyo Kiryuin, the ultimate villain in the anime.
Kill la Kill the Game: IF will launch on July 26 for the PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
