Voidmaw LLC has recently announced that their newest action roguelite game, Katanaut, will be shown as the Future Games Show Live From Gamescom 2025, according to a press release.

The newest action roguelite, inspired by both metroidvania and popular action-platformers, will be set on a massive space station. If that wasn’t an intriguing enough setting, the station is slowly but certainly spiraling out of control as the other human inhabitants twist and ungelate into monsters that shamble at you in their human-like husks. As the mystery unravels, the enemies gradually become less and less human, until you become used to killing the creatures.

Players will be armed with a combination of melee weapons, guns, and magic-like abilities that allow players to develop a number of different playstyles. However, each type of combat will suit a number of different particular situations with the weapons, skills, and perks being unlockable and upgradable. Each upgrade and unlock gives players another way to quickly react to the onslaught of enemies, accompanied by a blistering synthwave soundtrack that players should feel deeply immersed with adrenaline pumping.

With one person at the helm of musical control, the music of the game should present a deeply unified experience. Similarly, the pixel art in the game is also entirely designed by hand to contribute to the unsettling atmosphere of the game. The art is ominous, with the characters, environments, and animations increasing the feeling of isolation and abandonment. This is aided by a large number of entirely handcrafted levels, which are mixed in with procedurally generated levels, which seems to bring forward a unique experience.

Void LLC is planning a full Steam release with information released during the Future Games Show and a full console release at a date to be determined later. Currently, a demo is available on Steam for players to experience. The official gameplay trailer showcases what players can expect from the full game and demo.
