A brand new video game studio has just been announced, Raccoon Logic. The studio is made up of former developers of Typhoon Studio, which was shut down last year by Google. In addition, Raccoon Logic has also regained the rights to their most well known IP, Journey to the Savage Planet, which might have some implications on potential sequel. The studio has also received an early investment from Chinese corporate powerhouse Tencent, which enables them to begin this new venture.
The main founders of Raccoon Logic have all had a hand in some of the biggest AAA titles in recent years, including the aforementioned Journey to the Savage Planet. Alex Hutchinson was the Creative Director of Assassins Creed 3 and Far Cry 4, while Executive Producer Reid Schneider worked on the first two Batman Arkham titles. Chief Technology Officer Yannick Simard was a lead on the first two Watch Dog titles and Technical Design Director Marc-Antoine Lussier has worked on the Assassins Creed franchise.
Needless to say, the new studio has some serious talent on their hands. It’ll be interesting to see what they start working on first, if they haven’t already started. As we already mentioned, it’s possible that they’ll begin production on a sequel to Journey to the Savage Planet, a title that originally launched in 2020. The title combined space exploration with first person mechanics and was generally well received.
Prior to the release, then Typhoon Studio was acquired by Google and immediately placed into their Stadia Games and Entertainment division. Then earlier this year, Google announced that it had shut down the sector, essentially dissolving Typhoon Studios from existence. Thankfully the developers are back under the Raccoon Logic name, and we can’t wait to see what they’re working on in the foreseeable future.
