In May of this year, the gaming community lost one of its most beloved members in John “TotalBiscuit” Bain to bowel cancer. Bain was well known for his love and passion for the video game industry, and amassed a huge fan following thanks to his youtube series, WTF is…? as well as his famous podcast, The Co Optonal Podcast. In addition, Bain was an avid esports fan, so much so that he and his wife, Genna Bain, founded and managed their own StarCraft esports team, Axiom, from 2013 to 2015. There have been numerous tributes to Bain since his untimely passing, and now he will receive another one as ESL Gaming has announced that Bain will be inducted to the esports Hall of Fame, the very first non-player to be inducted.

It’s an honor that is more than deserving, as Bain began his career in the industry as a esport caster, calling play by play matches for the viewers. The induction ceremony will take place later this month in Hamburg, Germany during ESL One, the European Dota 2 tournament. His influence is still felt by gamers and competitors around the world, especially by those who play StarCraft II, as Blizzard Entertainment announced back in September that they were releasing the Commemorative Bundle which is comprised of cosmetics and frames such as Bains iconic hat from his famous series, “The Cynical Brit.”
In 2014, Bain announced that he was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Despite this, Bain continued to work while receiving treatment. However, things took a turn for the worse earlier this year when Bain announced that his treatments were no longer working, and that he was retiring as a video game critic. He passed away on May 22, and the video game community continues to grieve over the loss of one of their brothers. He remains one of the most well-known and beloved media content creators, not only in the world of video gaming, but in the world of entertainment itself. His esports Hall of Fame induction adds to the legacy of TotalBiscuit, a legacy that will live on forever.
