The reveal trailer for JETT: The Far Shore was released today at the PlayStation 5 reveal event, announcing the game as a console exclusive. The game is being co-created by Superbrothers, the studio Sword and Sworcery, and a company called Pine Scented for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Not much is yet known apart from the general concept and what was revealed at the event. The trailer advertises a 2020 holiday season launch window, placing it very early in the life cycle of the PlayStation 5.
The footage does great justice to next-gen graphics, showcasing a rotating Earth as a ship begins to take off farther and farther away over time. The ship is shown landing in different landscapes, one made completely of water, which could relate to the game title. The designs have a futuristic yet dreamy appearance that allows bright colors to stand out within its semi-dreary color scheme. The setting is definitely space, and presumably, an alien planet, discovered after hundreds of years of travel. The sounds lend themselves to the atmospheric graphics, growing increasingly intense as the trailer progresses. The stage is set for the game’s narrative, with a call to action that reads “Carve out a future for a people. Haunted by oblivion. Propelled by dreams.”
JETT: The Far Shore will be an open-world single-player action-adventure game played from the perspective of the main character, Mei. She is assumed to be the figure towards the beginning who makes their way onto the ship, as other watch on hopefully. She is a scout aboard the Mother Structure, who must land her “jett” on an ocean planet to fulfill a mysterious odyssey. She will explore collect as she seeks to discover the origins of what is referred to as the “hymnwave”. It also appears to be the hope of her people to find a new planet to inhabit.
