James McCaffrey, Star of Max Payne, Has Died at 65

James McCaffrey, the voice of the titular character in Remedy’s Max Payne series, has died at 65 after a battle with cancer, as reported by TMZ.

A representative of the star told TMZ that he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, and passed away on Sunday. He was with his friends and family.

TMZ published a brief statement from the rep discussing the actor’s life. “One of Dick Wolf’s proteges (“Swift Justice”), McCaffrey went on to a successful 35-year career in television and film. Trained at the Actor’s Studio, he never lost his love for creating characters; however, his good looks often pushed him toward leading man roles.”

The actor’s death was first reported through an Instagram post from his friend and “Entourage” star Kevin Dillon, who posted a picture of the two together with the caption “#rip James McCaffrey we were lucky to have known you, my best friend you will be missed.”

McCaffrey played Max Payne through all three games in the trilogy and has had roles in Alan WakeControl, and Alan Wake 2, also published by Remedy. The studio put out a statement on Twitter, saying they were “deeply saddened” and referencing his “remarkable talent.”

Sam Lake, Remedy’s creative director and the body of McCaffrey’s Alex Casey and Max Payne, also released statement.

McCaffrey is survived by his wife, Rochelle Bostrom, and his daughter Tiernan.

Alex Andahazy: I have been playing games since my childhood, and am constantly looking to expand my horizons. I have always been a Nintendo fan at heart, but in recent years I've moved to a much wider variety of genres and platforms.
