inXile Entertainment has started slowly releasing development diaries to drip-feed information out about their upcoming third entry in the Wasteland franchise. Last week, inXile Entertainment released their first diary entry for Wasteland 3. The diary detailed the character creator system in extreme detailing, and the developers even gave out a build for a powerful and fast melee character who had the downside of being an extremely fragile glass cannon who would probably die in the first few turns of a battle. Also how the turn system for Wasteland’s combat has been changed with the player moving all at once followed by the enemy moving all at once, instead of having the character’s turns mixed together.
Now the second diary is out which continues exploring characters, locations, weaponry, lore and some brand new mechanics for Wasteland 3. inXile studio Head Brian Fargo and head writer Nathan Long explore the winter wasteland of Colorado, where the player’s ranger squad will spend the majority of the story in. The story for Wasteland 3 follows right after the events of Wasteland 2 where the Rangers nuked their own base in order to defeat a violent AI.
The Rangers are invited to Colorado after a request for help from the Patriarch to solve a few of his issues. The Patriarch and his marshals will not be the only weird faction the player will meet, as they will come across a group the worships former president Ronald Reagan as a god with a fully organized church that is not too dissimilar to the Catholic structure and the worshipers of Reagan has controlling monopoly on oil, forcing the player to confront them.
The world of Wasteland 3 will be actively watching the actions of the player and will respond accordingly, offering more story paths and options for the players to take as the run multiple games. Wasteland 3 was delayed and is currently scheduled to launch August 28 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC along with being available for Game Pass subscribers.
