Insomniac Games may have just released arguably one of the best games in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart this year, but the studio is already getting ready to start work on something brand new. They recently posted some new job listings for their next project. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this potentially new IP is that it looks like it’s going to have an emphasis on multiplayer. This is especially interesting due to the fact that Insomniac Games is mostly known for their excellent single-player experiences, meaning that the studio is essentially entering uncharted waters with this new venture.

According to the post, Insomniac Games is currently looking for Creative Director, Systems Designer (Multiplayer), Story Lead, Art director, and a VFX Artist. The role designated for the multiplayer aspect states that the role “oversees aspects of multiplayer features, mechanics, systems design, and more.” The other job listings all mention things that are expected for their respective roles. The company has not provided any other type of information as to what the new project will be about.
As we already mentioned, Insomniac Games is not known for dabbling in multiplayer titles. Despite this, they have actually released a couple of multiplayer games with varying degrees of success. The most well-known, or most infamous one is Fuse, which was released with the help of EA who was the game’s publisher. Released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Fuse was unfortunately critically panned by reviewers and gamers alike.
Still, it will be interesting to see what Insomniac Games has up their sleeve for this new outing. On top of that, it’ll more than likely be a special title for the PlayStation 5, since they are a subsidiary of Sony, which only makes the prospect even more exciting. The studio has been on a role for the past seven months as they’ve released both Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for the PlayStation home consoles. Both have been critically acclaimed, with the latter more than likely a major candidate for Game of the Year.
