During Insomniac’s Twitch stream studio founder and CEO Ted Price was asked if any of the studio’s owned IP could make return. He then explained that the company is open to making a sequel for their popular title Sunset Overdrive but added that they would need a bit of support for that.
The company knows that Sunset Overdrive 2 is something that fans would be excited to see, but says it will only come to pass if they have a publisher available to help bring the game to life. “Sunset is something that I know a lot of our fans talk about wanting to see the sequel,” Price said. “We need a partner for that. That’s a big game; Sunset 2 would be a very large-scope game.”
Although Microsoft was the publisher behind Sunset Overdrive Insomniac still holds ownership of the IP. This means a new publisher could allow the title to move to multiple platforms and away from the Xbox Exclusive club if Microsoft would choose to leave.
There is no confirmed word or plans for a sequel thus far and with Price letting it be known to the media that they are in need for a publisher, this might mean that Microsoft has no interest in a sequel for the game. It has also been said that Price has asked Microsoft why there isn’t a sequel to the game, which may imply that the publisher has denied the opportunity and now the studio is currently exploring other options for the game.
