Inkblood’s part of the Mix Fall Game’s Showcase 2026, the detective game by Hey Bird follows an “Inquisitor following a trail of death,” through the Game Trailers description, armed with a special revealing glass, camera and a map.
With blank and reddish themed motifs, the game’s graphics are bold and stylised with characters designed in a unique and story specific way. The game plays out on a story book centered screen, with things on and around it that the character can use. The glass reveals things about people, things you’ll need to make decisions. In the first instance it shows a man picking forest grown mushrooms, the character gains the same mushroom and tests it out, finding it to be a hallucinogen.
With very interactive map animations, there are lots of spots and equally more stories. Some come with hidden belongings and materials left behind that are helpful. He takes some of the hidden materials into the box with the mushroom. The player then uses taste to explore through what might be interpretive dreams, either way they serve a purpose in the end. More materials bring more dreams with stylized and abstract imagery such as mushrooms with feet, and mushrooms with human limbs. Through the guiding of the stars, people take center stage, with hidden people and their even more hidden notes becoming exposed to the Inquisitor in the game. Some notes are legible while others are gibberish riddles waiting to be unlocked. There are boards such as one for “STRANGE MARKS” for pictures, there’s even a telephone used to call tips. The camera comes into play and curated shots form the pics needed for the board. All the shots seem to be from background characters in larger scandals. To find out why, you’ll have to try out the game or its new demo on Steam.
