Speculation around the Nintendo Switch’s successor has recirculated following recent comments from a prominent industry analyst. The Nintendo Switch is well into its twilight years, something that expects within Nintendo have noted thanks to the consoles steady but dwindling sales record of the last few years.
Despite the numerous highly acclaimed titles coming to the console last year, the Switch is nearly well overdue for an upgrade.
Speculation has grown over when not if the successor to the Nintendo Switch would be released, and while nothing remains confirmed, outlets have reported that a release could be as early as this year with many alleging that developers have already gotten development kits of the upcoming console during the 2023 Gamescom showcase in September.
In his industry predictions for 2024, CEO of the game industry consultancy Kantan Games, Dr. Serkan Toto, gave further credence to the possible 2024 release date of Nintendo’s next console. Additionally, he alleged that the console could cost up to $400 and keep the $70 USD price range other modern consoles have adapted for their new AAA games.
“The time is finally here for a Switch successor, even though I can say a ‘Pro’ model actually did exist and certain developers were already working with the dev kit,” wrote Toto. “I believe the next hardware will drop [in 2024] for $400. There is a high chance that games will cost more, too: $70.”
Additionally, Toto alleges that the Switch successor would be another iteration of the console, keeping similar features like portability instead of something radically different.
Regardless, with how tight-lipped Nintendo continues to be on the future of the Switch, it’s unlikely that fans will hear any official news on the Switch 2 anytime soon. If news were to come out about it’s next console, it’s speculated that it might appear sometime later this year at the earliest.
