Indie Platformer Emily Now On Kickstarter

Indie team Pixel Worm are hoping to bring their concept for a Metroidvania-style action platformer, Emily, to Steam. To do so, the team have turned to Kickstarter for support.

Getting started in the games industry is hard. A good game concept isn’t enough, you have to have skill, dedication, and more than a touch of luck if you really want to bring your ideas to life on monitors or televisions around the world.

Okay, sometimes a little money to keep food on the table helps too, and that’s where Kickstarter comes in.

Developer Pixel Worm are just starting out (though they are far from short on industry talent,) and they have chosen to take an ambitious route with their first release. The name of the game is Emily, and the title character is a young girl on a quest to rescue her father. In a world ravaged by overpopulation, a terrible plague has spread across much of the populace. Emily’s father is one of the few brave enough to risk the wrath of the corporations and seek a cure for the terrible disease, but when he is found out, those in control kidnap him and leave his daughter — the only subject to try his experimental cure — to track him down and rescue him.

With a storyline out of an 80’s anime and surprisingly strong art, Emily has all the makings for a solid debut title… that is, if Pixel Worm can pull together the funding they need to make it happen. Their kickstarter has only just begun, and with almost a month left to raise their $60k goal the team has a ways to go before Emily will be a sure thing. If they do net funding, the PC/Steam release is only the start of Pixel Worm’s plans for Emily, with long-term hopes being to, quote, “port the game to as many systems as possible.” The world can always use more action/adventure/platformers, in my opinion, and if you agree then check out the team’s Kickstarter page, or just give them a vote up on the game’s Greenlight page on Steam.
