Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark has surpassed its $40,000 goal on Kickstarter, with a total pledge of over $45,000 and over 1,000 total backers. The game is slated as a “classic turn-based tactical RPG” according to the company 6 Eyes Studio, with members who have worked on Nintendo DS title Black Sigil: Blade of Exiled. The company says the game is reminscent of classics such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre. Fans who have played newer titles such as Fire Emblem Awakening may also see similarities in the tactical play style, with access to a diverse world map, multiple classes, and a detailed story.
According to the official website, Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark features storyline surrounding the Immortals, powerful beings who “banded together to form a Council that would enforce peace and stability on a global scale, stepping in at any hint of war or chaos,” after the world was attacked by a “beast of destruction.” The Immortals need help protecting the world and enlist the services of the “Arbiters to guard the land’s people from the more day-to-day dangers they face. Arbiters range over the land, rooting out bandits, unruly monsters, and crooked officials; their word is law.”
Players will control agent Kyrie and command a squad of Arbiter’s to maintain piece. Squadrons can be made up of a variety of classes: Mercenary, Mender, Wizard, Knight, Scoundrel, Plague Doctor, Alchemystic, Ranger, Templar, Druid, Fellblade, Gambler, Gadgeteer, Reaver, Peddler, Sorceror, Warmage, Gunner, Assassin, Duelist, and a currently unknown class. Squad mates can have a main class and a subclass and will retain “all the skills they currently know on both classes.” The descriptions, sprites, and signature abilities for each class are conveniently listed on the website in addition to a character creation tab which gives a brief look as to what goes into creating a custom character. Customization selections include “skin tone, face, hair, eye color, outfit, and hat, each with many color variations to choose from.”
Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark features turn-based battles and characters do not permanently die if they fall in battle; instead they suffer unique status effects or injuries, which “lowers all their stats until they have recovered by resting (not participating) for some amount of battles.” There are hundreds of gear options to choose from when equipping teammates, and maps feature unique obstacles that may help or hinder units during battle.
Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark will be released on PC via Steam and on Xbox One consoles. Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions of the game are not guaranteed upon the official release in Summer 2018, but 6 Eyes Studio has not ruled out ports for those consoles just yet.
