Here Below has announced its next project, the sci-fi body horror adventure ULTRASOUND, which is set to release on PC via Steam in 2026. A new announcement trailer offers the first glimpse of the infection that players will face, with a playable demo planned for later this year, according to a press release.
The trailer offers an experience that teeters on the edge of a psychological thriller, the sound of being submerged under a fluid fills your ears as a vagule human head turns to look in your direction. It’s nothing but bones that you seem to need to fill with a green substance. The game forshadows a dark end, with a creature crawling toward you and red filling spaces you previously occupy. Pulsing music is strangely reminiscent of a beating heart, yet it feels as if you’re floating through space (you are) in a dream-like state.
ULTRASOUND takes place aboard a long-haul space freighter on a collision course with a star. Players step into the role of Medical Officer Dana Voss, tasked with diagnosing and treating a grotesque alien infection spreading throughout the ship. Using surgical instruments and a portable ultrasound machine, Dana must scan for hidden malformations, identify threats, and operate on compromised systems to keep the vessel intact. If critical ship systems fail, the mission ends in catastrophe.
The game blends surgical tension with survival decision-making. New medical tools and upgrades can be discovered, while experimental injections and crafted medicines help deal with mutations and growths that constantly evolve. Every choice carries weight, influencing both the ship’s condition and Dana’s fate. With multiple endings and system failures that alter the course of each playthrough, ULTRASOUND promises variety and replayability.
The project comes from developers Walter Woods and Jason Scalfano, both new fathers who drew inspiration from the anxieties and emotions surrounding ultrasound machines. “So many of us know the hope and horror of the ultrasound machine. The mystery. The ambiguity. The flickering image of life and death,” Woods explained. “We hope our game captures these difficult feelings and resonates with players.”
ULTRASOUND is currently scheduled to release in 2026, with more details on its upcoming demo arriving soon. Recently, many small teams and indie developers have stepped onto the scene to dethrone industry giants, and this may offer a unique experience as well.
