If You’re Tired of Hunting Monsters, Try Breeding Them!

One of the hottest topics in games so far this year has been monster hunting. Now, the internet has something new to offer. If you’d ever wondered what the off-spring of a Dinosaur and a Skeleton might be, Monster Breeder is the game for you.

Neil Cicierega is an internet-famous comedian and animator. He’s released albums, created flash animations, and is the man behind the famous Potter Puppet Pals series. His most recent endeavor is an online free flash based game he calls Monster Breeder.

The premise is simple enough. You are a humble monster rancher, who’s stock has been wiped out by illness and needs to be replenished. In a style that calls back to the text based top down adventure games of the past, you venture into the areas surrounding your farm and attempt to encounter and capture monsters.

Once you have a respectable stable of creatures you can start wildly breeding them. There seem to be no rules or limits on what creatures can be bred together, and each pairing produces a unique new monster. Then your phone begins to ring with customers offering to pay top dollar for your new creations. You can choose to sell them off or release them into the wild.

The money made from selling the monster’s offspring can be used to buy better equipment to catch bigger and more exciting monsters. They range from generic and unspecific, like zombies and ghosts, to famous creatures from horror and science fiction, like Frankenstein and Leatherface. There are plenty of options for the adventurous breeder.

It’s funny and charming, and very engaging for such a simplistic premise and interface. You can play Monster Breeder online. If you’re looking to lose a couple of hours seeing what could possibly come from mating a Sasquatch with a Giant Ant, you will definitely have a good time. Take a look at the gameplay in the short trailer below.
