With a new take on perspective for ghosts in video games, I am Dead places players on the cute island of Shelmerston following the recently deceased Morris Lupton and his ghost dog Sparky. Morris Lupton was a museum curator in his past life, and must now team up with his dog Sparky to discover more about the island and save it from a newly discovered arriving natural disaster. According to the official Steam page description of the story, “Morris and Sparky must unearth a number of Shelmerston’s lost and scattered ghosts. To find them, the duo must visit the places they spent time in, dive inside the memories of the people who knew them best, and learn the stories of their lives.”
As a ghost, Morris will utilize a new X-ray power that allows players to see through objects and people to reveal their contents and memories. While exploring the island, players will encounter a number of the secrets of the island, including a look into the game’s “Legend of Aggi that once silenced the island’s dangerous volcano”. Players will learn more about the myths and legends of the islands, as well as about its ancient inhabitants as they explore.

Similar in style to the developer’s previous title Hohokum, I am Dead features a unique and soft art style that couples with a friendly atmosphere (exemplified by the smiling faces of the trees and rocks) of the game. The people, places, and memories that Morris and Sparky will encounter in the game are all related to the two’s past lives, as they learn more about their connection to Shelmerston. The puzzle adventure game will be releasing later this year for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Pre-orders are available via the official Nintendo website and Steam Store page.
