Hyrule Warriors Legends Introduces “My Fairy” System

It appears as though Hyrule Warriors Legends is truly the gift that keeps giving. New content is emerging daily from the woodwork as Nintendo preps for its release in less than one month. Originally made for the Wii- U back in August of last year, the action spin-off is now coming to the 3DS with a January launch in Japan (North America and Europe seeing the game on sale sometime in 2016). However, instead of winding down towards its holiday launch, Nintendo looks like it is kicking it into high gear and adding more bang for players’ bucks.

Details and images were showcased today on Japanese magazine, Famitsu, with new costumes for characters, alongside another map for Adventure mode called “The Great Sea” (a reference to Wind Waker, if I ever saw one). Nintendo, however, did not stop there.

The game will now also be featuring a new system called “My Fairy” where players can raise and take care of their very own fairies. Fairies are recruitable throughout various levels of Adventure mode, and like most weapons in the game, are also elemental. Players have the option to customize their fairies (hairstyle, wings, outfits, abilities), and can boost their stats by feeding them.

Developers have engineered the fairies to be more than just a very pretty Hyrule-Tamagotchi. Players will be able to bring fairies into combat with them as a “reassuring partner of the adventure.” Fairies will be able to lend players a helping hand by using “Fairy Magic” in battle. Additionally, being the type to always encourage interaction and cooperation between players, Fairy skills will apparently be interchangeable between friends “in local communication.”

Any way you swing it, Nintendo is really stepping it up with HWL. It appears that developers are doing backflips to ensure they are not cranking out a recycled game for the 3DS. Japanese fans can look forward to owning Hyrule Warriors Legends for their Nintendo 3DS  on January 21st, 2016. North American/European fans can mark March 25th, 2016 on their calendars.
